The Short Version
LocalScan is a free app provided "as is". Use it to scan documents, and enjoy! We're not responsible if something goes wrong, but we've done our best to make it work well. Your documents stay on your device, so you're in control.
1. Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using LocalScan ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.
These Terms apply to all users of the App, including users who access the App via the Apple App Store.
2. Description of Service
LocalScan is a document scanning application for iOS devices that allows you to:
- Scan physical documents using your device's camera
- Extract text from images using OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
- Apply image enhancements and filters
- Export documents as PDF, JPEG, or PNG
- Use optional on-device AI features for smart document processing
All processing occurs locally on your device. The App does not require an internet connection for core functionality (except for the optional AI model download).
3. Free Service
LocalScan is provided free of charge. There are:
- No subscription fees
- No in-app purchases
- No advertisements
- No premium tiers or feature locks
All features are available to all users at no cost.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use LocalScan only for lawful purposes. You may not use the App to:
- Scan or process documents that you do not have the legal right to scan
- Create, store, or distribute illegal content
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
5. Your Content
All documents you scan and create using LocalScan remain your property. The App stores your content locally on your device.
You are solely responsible for:
- - The documents you scan and store
- - Backing up your data (the App does not backup to iCloud)
- - Ensuring you have the right to scan and store any documents
- - Maintaining the security of your device
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
LOCALSCAN IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
We do not warrant that:
- ! The App will meet your specific requirements
- ! The App will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
- ! OCR results will be 100% accurate
- ! AI-generated content (summaries, extractions) will be accurate or complete
- ! Any errors in the App will be corrected
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- - Loss of data or documents
- - Loss of profits or business opportunities
- - Device damage or malfunction
- - Any damages arising from your use or inability to use the App
This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory under which such damages are sought.
8. Intellectual Property
The App and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by LocalScan and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
9. Updates and Changes
We may update the App from time to time. Updates may include:
- Bug fixes and performance improvements
- New features and functionality
- Changes to existing features
You are responsible for ensuring you have the latest version of the App. We may modify these Terms at any time, and such modifications will be effective upon posting.
10. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it from your device. Uninstalling the App will delete all your stored documents and data.
We reserve the right to discontinue the App at any time without notice. However, since all your data is stored locally, discontinuation of the App will not affect your already-stored documents until you uninstall the App.
11. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved in the courts located in California.
12. Apple App Store Terms
If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge and agree that:
- These Terms are between you and LocalScan only, not Apple Inc.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App
- Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to the App
- Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms
